Four-star sets up officials
Posted Dec 2, 2011
Florence, Ala., athlete Beniquez Brown has been busy hosting colleges in his home over the last few days. Brown kicks off the official visit process with a trip to Tennessee this weekend.
"Ole Miss just left my house,"
said Thursday night. "There have been several schools who have been by here this week. It's been fun getting to know a little bit more about each school."
The Rebels dismissed coach Houston Nutt at the end of the season but their assistant recruiting coordinator came by Brown's home to set up an official visit.
"Coach (Branden) Wensel just told me that I could come in and play early. They already offered me so it wasn't about that. We just set up a date for me to come in there and take an official visit. They want me to come in there either on January 20th or 27th."
Scout.com's No. 14 nationally-rated outside linebacker was impressed that Ole Miss sent someone to his house considering the circumstances.
"That really shows me that I am a top priority for them. My coach told me last week they were coming by and they did. The visit I had with them was good. They are talking about offering my cousin,
, so they can try and make it a package deal."
Is it important for Kivon and Beniquez to go to the same school?
"It really isn't that important to be truthful, but it's something we've always wanted to do. If he finds a place that's better for him then I'm going to support him, and if I find something better for me then he'll support my decision. But it's something we would really like to do. Mississippi State is the only school who has offered both of us but Tennessee and Ole Miss are talking about offering Kivon too."
Is there any other schools in the picture outside of these three mentioned?
"Arkansas. That's it. I'm going to Tennessee this weekend, Arkansas (1/6), MSU (1/13) and Ole Miss on either the 20th or 27th (of January). All four schools brought their coaches over here this week, and they're the ones who've been calling me weekly to check up on me. I really can't see anyone else jumping into the picture but I never say never either."
Brown talks about what he likes with each school.
"Tennessee came by this week and said I could play early and that it would be a great fit for me. They're just hoping I'm going to be a Vol. I like it up there too. I have a real good relationship with their coaches, and I have gotten to know some of their players on the team pretty good too. I just feel comfortable up there and it's not that far away from Florence."
"I really don't know much about Arkansas. I've never been there. When I go on my official visit it will be my first visit."
"I have a great relationship with the Mississippi State staff, especially coaches Collins and Mullen. They offered Kivon. I've been down there a lot and I enjoy it down there. I really like Starkville."
"I have a chance to play early at Ole Miss because they are graduating both of their starting running backs. They don't have a big guy who can take a pounding coming back next season so the spot is wide open. I could go in there and start my freshman season. It's a good opportunity for me."
Brown helped Florence (Ala.) to a 7-3 record while rushing for 1,263 yards and 25 touchdowns and 64 tackles on defense.
"Everybody is recruiting me as an athlete really. No one has just said I am playing offense or defense. It doesn't really matter which side of the ball I play on to be truthful. Academics will be the biggest factor then I'm looking at my relationship with the coaches and how soon I can get on the field."
