The Latest with Dashon Hunt
Westlake Village (CA) Westlake junior defensive back Dashon Hunt was the first player in the 2013 class to verbal to the UCLA Bruins, making a commitment to Rick Neuheisel back in August, and while the news of Neuheisel's firing wasn't a complete shock it has caused him to consider all of his options. "I had a feeling that they were going to fire him sooner or later. I just wasn't expecting it to be this soon," Hunt said. "I would've at least given him another year just to see how good the team would be next year. "(UCLA) is still one of the schools that I would love to go to but my options are still open for other schools." Hunt remains committed to UCLA but says he will start to evaluate other schools and turn his focus to recruiting at the conclusion of his high school season. "At the end of this season is when I am going to start looking into the colleges and debating on what I am interested in and where I see myself being able to play," Hunt explained. "I'm not really going to know my final decision until after my senior year." While Hunt is going to take his time before making a final decision, the Oregon Ducks are another Pac-12 school that will definitely get some consideration. "That has always been one of my top three schools to go to," Hunt said of the Ducks. "I want to take an official and see how it is out there and if I would like to live out there and go to college out there. That is one of the big time ones and I am still looking at a couple other schools." In the meantime, the talented defensive back is hoping to lead Westlake to a CIF championship, undefeated season and a chance for a state title. "It has been a phenomenal season. Every week we get better as the competition gets tougher, especially in the playoffs," Hunt said. "We have always rallied up as a team and done what was need to come up with a victory."
