Jones Still a Cougar, Considering His Options
Wide receiver Dalen Jones verbally committed to Washington State in March, but other schools were still after the 3-star prospect. After the firing of head coach Paul Wulff and the recently announced hiring of former Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach, Jones has a lot to think about. The news of Leach to Wazzu didn't deter Jones, as he thinks it will have a positive impact on the program. "I think that it's a good change. I mean, when I went up there I really liked Wulff and everybody, so that's a big part for me because we had a good relationship; going in and trying to impress another coach is going to be tough, but I feel that the changes are going to be a good thing for Washington State as a team." Jones is no stranger to Leach's style of play. "I used to watch him a lot actually, watch them play. I haven't talked to him as a person, but I've seen everything that he runs and I like it." Nevada, UCLA, Sacramento State, and Fresno State are all showing continuing interest, and Jones took an official visit to Reno this past weekend, where he witnessed the Wolfpack defeat the Idaho Vandals 56-3. "I liked it. They treat you right up there. I really liked it. It was a good game, it was cold! I really like what they are doing with their program...I really liked it." Jones has a few more officials planned. "I'm going to Fresno this upcoming weekend, to Sacramento State on December 16th, and to UCLA in January." In the meantime, Jones has yet to waver from Wazzu. "My commitment is still in there," Jones said.
