Focus 2014: Terrence Alexander
"We had a good playoff run and it was good to beat Evangel," said Terrence Alexander. "We got the state title back at Curtis. "Next year, we should be strong in the secondary. There's competition; we're not losing many players. Mattrell McGraw and Prine Lewis are both sophomores. Matt has good size. Prine hasn't played as much yet as he will. We also have Jay (Jacolby Cooper), Brandon Porter and Richard Allen." Alexander talked about his best games of the 2011 season. "I returned an interception 49 yards against Cohen," he stated. "They tried to throw a fade on me and I stayed deep. I had a lot of tackles against East St. John. They kept throwing to my side at first, but Brandon and I stopped them and so they quit throwing at us. "I had a good game against Westgate. It was all run support. In the Newman game, they were trying to target me with their wide receiver who is 6-foot-3 or 6-foot-4 but I stopped him." In the spring, Alexander hopes to help Curtis to a third straight track and field state championship. "Last year, I ran the 200 and 400 meters," he said. "This year, I think they're going to have me run the 100, 200 and 400." Alexander hopes to be recruited by Florida State, Clemson, Arkansas, Baylor and Cal. He broke up eight passes this year, which was fourth on the team. Curtis won its first state championship in three years with a 33-3 rout of Winnfield. The Patriots lost in the '09 and '10 finals to Evangel Christian. In the '11 semis, Curtis defeated Evangel, 38-6.
