KIRKLAND, Wash. - Every year the All-American games go through the same routine; they travel across the country on their announcement tours, hitting high schools throughout the fall and winter as prelude to when the games are played. They try to get to as many places as possible, but they can't be everywhere at once, so sometimes players committed to play in these post-season events are missed.
One such player was
Nathan Dean
.
Dean, the 6-foot-5, 270-pound offensive line prospect from Juanita High School in Kirkland, Wash. was invited to participate in the inaugural Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, to be played January 3rd in Phoenix, Ariz. Dean verbally committed to
Washington
in the middle of June.
Nathan was one of three Washington-based players to take the Marines up on their prestigious invite; Tacoma Baptist OL
Walker Williams
, who is committed to
Wisconsin
, and Mercer Island QB
Jeff Lindquist
, who will join Dean at UW next fall. The Semper Fidelis announcement tour held events at both Tacoma Baptist and Mercer Island, but despite their best efforts a stop at Juanita never materialized.
But in an act of kindness, sportsmanship, friendship and fellowship, the families of both Williams and Lindquist wanted to find a way to give Dean and his family their moment in the spotlight. So they set up a group celebration at Nathan's favorite Italian restaurant - Cafe Veloce in Kirkland - and Scout.com was honored to document their private gathering, including Dean receiving a special gift.
We look forward to covering Nathan, Jeff, and Walker in Phoenix as they represent the Evergreen State at the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl!
