"Coach Kirk Anderson at Eastern Michigan offered," said David Dawson, the 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive lineman from Cy-Ridge in the Houston area.
Prior to the start of his junior season, Dawson transferred to Texas from Cass Tech in Michigan.
"It feels good to get my first offer," said Dawson. "My mom's husband got a job down here in July and we moved. We went 5-5 at Cy-Ridge, but due to the tiebreaker system we didn't make the playoffs. We did good, though.
"To me, the competition and teams are equal down here (as compared to Michigan)."
Dawson is being recruited as either a guard or tackle.
"Michigan State is looking at me for guard or right tackle," he explained. "I play right tackle now.
"It doesn't matter where I go for college. I'm open to staying down here or going back north. I'm hearing from Alabama and Miami a lot. Miami's offensive line coach likes my film. Northern Illinois is the other program that's showing a lot of interest.
"I'm finishing my new film tomorrow and expect to hear from a lot of schools."
Dawson said Michigan State wants him to visit when he's in the area and would like him to attend their junior day.
