The U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas has become of the most exciting days of the year in recruiting, and the Cal Bears came up big by securing the commitment of five-star defensive lineman Ellis McCarthy.
“Coach Lupoi has been talking to me a lot and I’m just feeling it right now,” McCarthy said. “I like all the coaches there and they keep in touch a lot and I know I’m going to stay there for all my four years.”
The 6-5, 295-pound lineman had serious interest in both USC and Oregon, but a late push by Cal put the Bears over the top.
The commitment of McCarthy gives Cal another elite prospect in their 2012 class, which has the potential to be one of Scout.com’s Top 10 classes.
