Sun Devils Visit Louisiana RB
"When Coach Thomsen first walked in, he looked at Davante' and said, 'Wow,'" said Kirk Landry, father of running back Davante' Bourque. "I've been pushing Davante' at the gym and these coaches see that he is really 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds. "Davante' was tall and thin for awhile and some of these coaches are surprised when they first meet him. They're used to players being a couple of inches shorter and lighter than their listed weight. When Coach Thomsen shook hands with Davante', he commented on how big Davante's hands are." What did Thomsen say to advance the cause of the Sun Devils in their recruitment of Bourque? "They want a big back with breakaway speed,," said Landry. "Coach Thomsen asked Davante' who he patterned his running style after, and Davante' told him it was Reggie Bush. "Coach Thomsen asked, "What conference did Reggie Bush play in?" Bourque is scheduled for official visits to Tennessee and Miami the next two weekends. "Ole Miss, Arizona State, Nebraska and Southern Miss are all trying to get an official on that last weekend - the 27th," said Landry. "Coach Thomsen told Davante' he's going to love Miami when he visits there. He said Davante' needs to choose the best fit for himself." Landry said the past few weeks have been hectic. "My phone hasn't stopped ringing," he said. "I've hardly been able to get any sleep. I don't know how, but people are getting the number to my parents' house and calling there."
