Core 6 Winter Showcase Preview

Many of Illinois' top underclassmen will be in one place working with former college players and showcase their talents.

Next Monday, in what is becoming a Martin Luther King Day tradition, Core6, a quickly growing training facility in Illinois, will host their second annual Winter Showcase.

Last year, the event drew top names like Jordan Diamond, Robert Gregory, Faith Ekakitie, Dan Voltz, Jack Lynn, and others that are set to sign with major programs next month. Judging from the early list of expected attendees, this year's event should surpass that one in terms of volume of elite level talent.

Expected 2013 Prospects:

  • Ty Isaac | RB | Joliet Catholic
Isaac may end up as the top player in the Midwest and is a candidate for five-stars when the 2013 rankings are expanded. He's a 6'3, 220-lb back who lit up scoreboards this year with his 45 touchdowns. Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State and others have offered.

  • Ethan Pocic | OT | Lemont
Pocic is a 6'6, 280-lb offensive tackle with a lot of potential because of his athleticism in a big frame. Michigan, Notre Dame, Illinois and several others have already extended an offer.

  • Logan Tuley-Tillman | OT | Peoria Manual
Tuley-Tillman is one of the fastest rising prospects in the Midwest, quickly adding offers over the last few months. He has Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, South Carolina, Arkansas and should have many more. 6'7, 275-lbs and athletic, we're excited to see him in action.

  • Laquon Treadwell | WR | Crete-Monee
Big and physical, Treadwell had a great sophomore season and then bettered it as a junior, pulling in offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Indiana in the process. His physicality and ability to go up and get the ball should be on display next Monday.

  • Colin McGovern | OT | Lincoln Way East
He's a guy that really caught our eye on tape right away, not just because he's 6'7, 280-lbs, but because he finishes his blocks and is a nasty run blocker. Northwestern offered and others may not be far behind. This will be our first time seeing him in person to see if it matches the tape.

  • Caleb Bailey | LB | Romeoville
A fast, attacking backer who plays with reckless abandon on tape, Bailey already holds a Toledo offer. The knock on him right now may be size, so we're looking forward to seeing him on the hoof. On tape, there is no doubt that he can find the football and run though.

  • Joshua Cazley | S | Charleston
His junior tape is impressive, because of his defensive ability, but also because of his return skills. He's a good athlete with good speed, but is still under the radar and this may be the chance he needs to breakout.

  • Other 2013s to Watch
Chicago Simeon will send two of its best, offensive tackle Kendall Moore who has a nice frame (6-5, 265) and linebacker Reggie Spearman, who looked good on tape. Harvey Thornton cornerback Jalen Banks is a good sized cover man who we hear may be close to some early offers. Montini defensive end Fred Beaugard and Benet defensive end Charles Melka are two kids who look good on the hoof and should provide a strong challenge to the impressive group of offensive linemen.

At quarterback St. Viator's Mickey Macius, Marian Central Catholic's Chris Streveler and one of the few out of state guys, Manchester (Mich.) signal caller Nate Bossory are among the expected standouts. Other linemen to watch include Macomb's Nick Severs, Crete-Monee's Austin Rosenfeldt, and Plainfield East's Tyler Lancaster. Another to watch is Lemont defensive back Jake Lemming.

    Expected 2014 Attendees

  • Clifton Garrett | LB | Plainfield South
Based on early film work, I think this kid may end up as one of the top overall prospects in the Midwest. He's aggressive, has exceptional closing speed, and hits like a truck. BCS schools like Penn State and West Virginia are already in contact and he's one of the guys we'll be watching closely.

  • Brian Allen | C | Hinsdale Central
The younger brother of Michigan State center Jack Allen and an excellent wrestler, Allen already holds an offer from Iowa and should have several more by the time he's a senior.

  • Nyles Morgan | LB | Crete-Monee
While scouting Treadwell and Anthony Standifer this year, I noticed this good sized middle backer that was making a ton of plays and was surprised to learn he was a sophomore. Morgan has the look of a future Division-1 prospect.

    Other 2014s to Watch
Dillan Cazley of Charleston had a good sophomore year under center, but will play another position in all likelihood come college. Nile Sykes from Oak Park River Forest was an All-State selection this year. Naperville Central quarterback Jake Kolbe is another we'll have our eyes on.

    2015s to Watch
Two from Lincolnshire Stevenson, defensive lineman Nick Dillon and wide receiver Cameron Green were varsity starters this year and have the look of future stars.

Of course there will be others not named in this report who will emerge. Check back with Scout for full coverage from the event next Monday.
