"I'm taking a visit to McNeese on the 13th," said Alex Johnson, the all-state running back from Carencro HS. "It's not one of the bigger schools, but I can do something there."
Johnson led Carencro to a 13-2 record and the 5A state championship game. He ran for 346 yards on 30 carries in the Bears' shootout win over Calvary Baptist in the early weeks of the season.
"That felt great," said Johnson. "I didn't feel like I had gained that many yards. It felt great to get that far. I remember dragging somebody on one play.
"I was shocked at my stats for the year. I didn't think I would get that after gaining 1,200 yards as a junior. I was able to pick up more speed this year. The line blocked and opened holes. I felt like all I needed to do was get into the open field. I ran a lot in the offseason; I ran extra."
What does Johnson have to say about Carencro head coach Brent Indest?
"He's a great coach who wants the best for his players and is not going to let them settle for less," said Johnson. "You give 100% or you're not going to play."
