Posted Jan 14, 2012 takes a look at some of the top-tier talents who have registered to come in to compete and test at the Next Level Athlete Showcase in Houston, Texas.

The Next Level Athlete Showcase Series will make it’s next stop in Spring, TX tomorrow starting at 12:00pm. Several of the States finest prospects will be in attendance to not only gain additional recruiting exposure, but also to earn a chance to be featured on the all new television series, Next Level Athlete Powered by Chevy, airing on Fox Sports Southwest (check local listings).


The group is headlined by Texas A&M commitment Kohl Stewart, a 6-foot-2, 180-pounder from St. Pius X. Bryan High's Chris Johnson, a 6-foot-5, 180-pounder brings a nice blend of size, speed and athleticism. T.J. Austin, a 6-foot-0, 175-pounder from Angleton High had a strong showing at the Army Combine.

Others To Watch: Deonte Cooper(Aldine Macarthur), Robert Mitchell (Beaumont Central),Jordan Wood (Friendswood), Jake Hubenak (Georgetown), Jordan Darling (Waco Midway), Tyler McCloskey (Houston Memorial), Nestor Gonzalez (Houston Milby), Grant Ashcraft (Humble Atascocita), Logan Vinklarek (La Grange), Connor Feist (Langham Creek), Daniel Fitzwater (Liberty), Micah Thomas (North Shore), Luke Walters (Pleasanton), Jacob Burtch (Seminole), Jerrid Deveraux (Willis), Kadarius Baker (Navasota)

Running Back

There are few big names scheduled in this group. Cy-Ranch standout Keith Ford, a 5-foot-11, 195-pounder is already drawing praise as the top back in Texas for the 2013 class and he already has major offers. Jamel James, a 6-foot-0, 210-pounder from Katy Cinco Ranch has already committed to play at Arkansas and Adam Taylor, a 6-foot-0, 190-pounder will draw D1 interest. James White, a 5-foot-11, 190-pounder from Pearland Dawson is a guy who can make things happen in the open field or hit it hard in the middle.

Wide Receiver

The talent at this spot is loaded up. The hot name is Derrick Griffin, a 6-foot-5, 190-pounder who is already rated as a five-star recruit by as one of the top prospects in the country -- he also happened to recently verbal to Texas A&M. Another Texas A&M commit Ty Slanina from East Bernard High could work out at a number of positions. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder is a burner. Jacorey Warrick, a 5-foot-9, 165-pounder from Cy-Falls grabbed the national eye at the Texas State 7v7. Ricky Seals-Jones, a 6-foot-6, 190-pounder from Sealy High is an athlete who could still project at a number of spots on the next level, but is currenty rated as a five-star receiver on Scout. Dannon Cavil, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound big-framed guy is looking to emerge as one of the best in the state at the position. Jamar Gibson, a 6-foot-2, 190-pounder from Baytown Sterling made an early commitment to Texas A&M as well, but is now considering many D1 options, he is also considered as Top 100 prospect nationally.

Offensive Line

The only Top 100 member in this group is Weimar High's Ja'Braylin Thomas, a 6-foot-6, 320-pound offensive tackle. This will be a good test against players that are playing in the higher classification levels. He is on a number of school's early watch list. This event should give the opportunity for a number of others to emerge in to the limelight.
