LSU Junior Day: Shelby Christy
"Coach (Frank) Wilson said he watched my tape this morning," said Shelby Christy, the rangy wideout from Dutchtown. "He was very impressed. They want me to come back for all of the junior days and spring practice. There's three junior days; the last one is the Bayou Picnic in April or May. "It feels like home at LSU. I could easily get used to living there. I wouldn't worry about getting homesick in college. I could just drive 20 minutes to home whenever I felt like visiting." What else transpired today? "We talked about the recruiting process and what we should be expecting," said Christy. "We didn't have a position coach since Coach Billy (Gonzales) took the job at Illinois, so we talked to the quarterbacks coach. The coaches said they're going to change the offense and use the wide receivers more. Coach Les (Miles) said he's putting the loss behind him, and that's he's going to make it two out of three over Alabama the next time they play. "Two (current) players - Eric Reid and Brad Wing - talked to us about college life and the transition into it. They said get used to having tutors because you can't get through things without them." Who stood out among the other juniors? "John Diarse (Neville) seemed bigger than last time I saw him at camp," said Christy. "I saw my friends - Donald Gage (Redemptorist) and Jeryl Brazil (Loranger). They're the guys I usually hang with. "Donald and I always go at it in the long jump. I'm trying to break 23 feet at the indoor meet later this month. When Donald and I are at different meets, we contact each other and see how we did. We have a friendly rivalry."
