Scout.com takes a look at the Most Valuable Player performances from Sunday's Next Level Athlete Showcase in Houston, Texas, an event that brought a number of upper-echelon prospects to one central location.

WR MVP – Scout.com Overall MVP

Ricky Seals-Jones, a 6-foot-6, 195-pound wide receiver from Sealy High looked extremely good in all of the drills. His footwork for a big-framed prospect is phenomenal, he was zipping through all the drills like a slot receiver. In high school he spends most of his time at quarterback or at safety, so it was nice to see him run routes and show that he does have the ability to get open and catch the rock.

RB MVP

Sealy High made it a two-for-one MVP day, as Jowan Davis, a 5-foot-8 185-pounder took home the hardware. The quote that said it best, “They are going to have a parade in Sealy!” Davis is a rare breed at the position. He has a low center of gravity and is a powerful runner, who also is able to move well in space like a smaller back. He also showed some nice hands and the ability to get open in the one-on-one drills.

LB MVP

Fort Bend Hightower star Deon Hollins Jr., a 6-foot-2, 215-pounder not only ran well and went through all the drills, well but he showed great able to run and cover quicker and smaller players coming out of the backfield. He has good recovery skills and broke up a number of passes. He had worked out at defensive end in many combines previous to this one, so it was great to see him work out at his future college spot, but the OL/DL one-on-one station missed his excitement.

DB MVP

The defensive back award went to Maurice Smith, a 6-foot-0, 175-pound cornerback from Dulles High, who has been on a nice combine run after showing what he could do last weekend at the U.S. Army Combine. Smith showed some lock-down skills to go along with good size. He has yet to reel in his first offer, but has a number of schools looking at him hard. This was a great award to win, because the defensive back grouping had a number of talented players.

DL MVP

This award went to Texas A&M commitment Christian Lacouture from A&M Consolidated High. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive end was almost unblockable in the one-on-one drills, winning all the reps we watched. He has nice size to take a pounding at the position and the Aggies are getting a solid player.

QB MVP

Grant Ashcraft, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound hurler from Humble Atascocita High delivered one of the more accurate balls on the day and drew praise from his position coach for being fundamentally solid in all of the drills leading up to the one-on-one competition.

OL MVP

Kenneth Thompson, a 6-foot-3, 280-pound offensive guard prospect from Langham Creek High was also impressive in the drills and throughout the day he just kept playing better and better. he closed strong in one-on-one competition, securing the MVP honors.
