McDonogh #35 QB Jyron Walters committed to Arkansas State in August of last year but was informed today that the Red Wolves don't have a spot for him.

When Arkansas State lost head coach Hugh Freeze to Ole Miss, Jyron Walters apparently lost his scholarship at the same time.

"I hadn't talked to the coaches since Christmas Break and my dad got in contact with them today," said Jyron Walters. "They said they're not going to honor the scholarship.

"It's very disappointing for them to pull it away at the last second. I've been committed to Arkansas State since August and other schools shied away because of that."

Who was recruiting Walters earlier in the process and who would he like to hear from?

"Tulane, Memphis and North Texas," he replied to the first part of the question. "I'll play for any Division I school. I just want to play ball. I'd go to Tulane. Their new coach (Curtis Johnson) was a wide receivers coach with the Saints, so I know they're going to throw the ball a lot."

McDonogh #35 advanced to the Class 4A quarterfinals before running into eventual state champ Neville. Walters threw for 1,200 yards and ran for "300 to 400" more.

"It was a fun senior season, getting past the second round of the playoffs and beating St. Augustine twice," said Walters.
