Inglewood (Calif.) safety Devian Shelton has been committed to Oregon State since the end of December. However, ever since then Shelton has received quite a bit of unanticipated attention.
During the same weekend Shelton committed to the Beavers he also received an offer from Nebraska.
Shortly after hearing from the Huskers, Shelton received a call from the Vols’ defensive backs coach Terry Joseph, who called to offer him a scholarship to Tennessee.
“I am still committed to Oregon State, but I decided to open things up so I could take other trips,” explained Shelton. “I want to be able to compare all my options and make sure I am not missing out on an opportunity. I want to go to the school that is the best fit for me.”
Shelton has already taken officials to both Oregon State and Nebraska, and will take trips to Washington and Tennessee before announcing his final decision on Signing Day.
Shelton discussed his recent official to Nebraska.
“It was cool,” said Shelton. “I felt really comfortable there, in the same way I did when I was at Oregon State.”
As far as Washington, the Huskies came into the picture for Shelton when Keith Heyward was named Washington's new defensive backs coach earlier this month.
“I already have a relationship with Coach Hewyard, because he was recruiting me at Oregon State,” said Shelton. “I want to see what it’s like up there and check out the academics at UW. I am curious to hear how they are planning on running their defense now that they have a new staff.”
After taking all four officials Shelton says he will announce his final decision at Inglewood on February 1st.
