Ole Miss is looking to get off to a fast start for the 2013 recruiting class, and it begins with…
He Spoke From The Heart
When asked what has affected him the most during his recruitment so far, Davion Johnson didn't hesitate before his answer. "Oh, I know. When coach Freeze told me I was the first junior he was visiting. That meant a lot to me. I know I'm a priority for him and he made me know it." Johnson will head to Oxford for Ole Miss Junior Day this Saturday. He says Ole Miss is his leader at this point in time. "I'm looking forward to it. When coach Freeze visited me, he spoke from the heart. It was rehearsed or anything. It was just real. There's more to coach Freeze than just football. He wanted to get to know me and my family. I've also talked to Channing (Ward) and Isaac (Gross) about it. They want me to be a part of what's going on at Ole Miss." Ole Miss may be on top right now but Johnson says Mississippi State isn't far behind. He's spoken with coach Mirando at State since his sophomore year of high school. "I've been able to develop a good relationship with coach Mirando since I've been talking to him for so long. They want to evaluate more film and all before offering and they went back and forth a little but I think they still like me and I like them. Coach Hevesy (O-Line coach) visited my school last week. He's a really energetic guy." Johnson is also getting some early attention from other SEC programs outside the state of Mississippi. "Alabama has shown me some love and they stopped by my school. They want to evaluate film more but they are interested. I'm getting some mail too from Oregon, Purdue, Nebraska, and South Carolina. I would leave the state if the right offer came along but I can't really say either way right now."
