Smart Scopes Out LSU
Only four defensive linemen were good enough to make Fox Sports/Scout.com's U.S. Army All-Combine First-Team, and one was Tanzel Smart of Scotlandville High in north Baton Rouge. "I trained hard, prayed hard, and there it went," said Smart, reflecting on his performance in San Antonio last month. "The defensive line coach at the combine was a good, good coach. He has experience with first-round draft choices and taught me new techniques." Last weekend, Smart was at LSU for the Tigers' Junior Day. "It went good," he said. "My interest in LSU got even bigger. Brick Haley is going to check me out during the spring. My mom likes academics, and she likes Vanderbilt, which we visited awhile back. LSU is always in my heart, though." Smart is also hearing from Arkansas, Texas A&M, Tulane and Florida State. The 6-foot-2, 290-pounder keeps in shape as a member of Scotlandville's 29-2 basketball squad.
