Mahaffey Draws Early Looks
David Mahaffey profile "I have been to Ole Miss and Mississippi State for junior days," said Mahaffey. "I had a good time at both places and I learned a lot." The trip to Oxford proved to the first meeting for Mahaffey and the new staff in place at Ole Miss. "It was good to get up there and talk with those coaches for the first time," said Mahaffey. "I had never met them before, so it was interesting to see what all they had to say. "When I went, we had about eight other offensive lineman and we got to meet with the offensive line coach and hear about how they want to handle the O line." Mahaffey has spent a little more time at Mississippi State over the last couple of years, but he was still eager to learn more about what the Bulldogs had to offer. "I have been up there for a few games and things like that, so I had seen a lot of the facilities already," said Mahaffey. "I hadn't seen all of the facilities though and we got to do that this time. "They are building a lot more. They told me that are going to demolish the old weight room to build a new one. "I think they one they have now is great and they say the new one is going to be even better." As things stand now, it appears that both programs want to see Mahaffey in camp before making a move on an offer. "They are all recruiting me about the same," said Mahaffey. "It's sort of picked up from Mississippi State and Ole Miss both since I went to junior day. "Alabama has been sending me some things too." Mahaffey has played every position on the line at some point in his playing career, so he has the versatility to slide up and down the line as needed. "I have played guard and tackle the past couple of years," said Mahaffey. "I haven't played center in a while, but I have practiced it some. "I really like playing with my hand on the ground and I will do whatever the team needs me to go." The chance to play close to home is intriguing for Mahaffey, but he is not closing the door on any options. "Mississippi State is about an hour and a half away, Ole Miss is about two and a half hours away and so is Alabama and LSU," said Mahaffey. "Those are all close enough for me. "If I had to go off somewhere else, it would have to be something really special. I would really have to see something that drew me there."
