Dumfries (Va.) DT is a hot commodity
Dumfries (Va.) Potomac Senior lineman Donta Wilkins is a hot commodity on the 2013 recruiting trail. The 6-foot-3, 315-pounder is being recruited on the defensive line, with the exception of Virginia Tech. The Hokies are the only school to offer him on the offensive line. "I can play anything," said Wilkins. "I prefer defense but if offense is where they need me, I can play it." The many schools in pursuit over Wilkins include: Boston College, North Carolina State, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Penn State. "Penn State was my most recent offer. They offered me last week my coach told me." Wilkins has not visited Happy Valley but plans to in the spring. He attended UVa's junior day last weekend and Maryland's the week prior. He could not make it to Tech's, however. As a child, Wilkins grew up watching only one football team: Miami. "I liked 'The U' growing up. That was the only college I was deep into. I think my coaches are sending coach Golden my tapes." While he grew up a fan of Miami, his front-runner right now is UVa, a school he has built a rapport with since last year. "It would definitely be UVA. I feel at home there. They have been talking to me longer than anyone. The program is really on the rise there, too."In determining where he wants to call home, he said that proximity to his mother cannot be overlooked. "At first I was looking to go out of state, but my mom wants me to stay home so we are 50/50 on that right now." For the latest on Wilkins' recruitment, keep it here on FOX Sports NEXT.
