One of Minnesota's top athletes has decided to make an early pledge. Nate Swift says he'll play his college football in the Big XII Conference.
Nate Swift, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound, athlete from Hutchinson,
Minnesota
has given
Frank Solich
and the
Nebraska
Cornhuskers his verbal commitment.
"I camped at Nebraska last week from Wednesday through Saturday," said Swift.
"I got an offer from offer from Nebraska about two weeks befor the camp started.
"Saturday afternoon, I was called into Coach Solich's office and he talked to me about a verbal commitment.
"I told Coach Solich that I wanted to go home and talk it over with my coach and parents before making any kind of commitment.
"I spoke with my coach (Andy Rosberg) on the way home from camp Saturday and decided right there that I was going to commit to Nebraska.
"I was supposed to go to Minnesota's camp yesterday but decided not to go. I called Coach Solich at home and committed.
"My commitment is solid. I won't be looking around." Swift said.
Nate Swift is one of the best all-around athletes in the Midwest.
As a junior, Nate returned six punts for touchdowns and scored 19 touchdowns as a wide receiver for Hutchinson.
Swift played both running back and wide receiver as a junior but will play mostly tailback in 2003.
Swift was named all-state in 2002 and could play on either side of the ball at the next level. Nate is also a four-sport athlete that also participates in baseball, basketball and track.
Hutchinson Head Coach Andy Rosberg says that Nate Swift is the best athlete he has coached in 35 years.
