Recruiting Spotlight - Gerald Goldwire

Gerald Goldwire (Scout.com)

Scout.com spoke recently with Gerald Goldwire, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound defensive end/center from Lakes High School in Lakewood, Wash. Goldwire's older brother John, was a Lancer who eventually signed with Eastern Washington and is currently going into his third year with the Eagles.

"He's stronger than me, but I'm bigger and faster than him," Gerald said. "I'm more explosive."

Even though the two are similar in size, it appears as if Gerald enjoys playing along the line, whereas John is more of a linebacker. The Eagles hosted Gerald, along with two 2011 Lakes players - J.J. Njoku and Charles Hall - during a football game last year, and they told the younger Goldwire he needs to get stronger and in better condition, and then they'll be all over his recruitment. He also said that Washington is starting to recruit him a little bit.

Goldwire, who had 10 tackles for loss and a couple of sacks for the Lancers last year, earned honorable mention All-League honors.

Although he doesn't have his spring/summer camp/combine schedule put together yet, Goldwire knows he has to get his name out there in order to fulfill his dream of following his brother's footsteps and getting his schooling paid for.

"I need to play football in college," Goldwire said, matter-of-factly.
