NFSC: Cole Newsome
Huber Heights (OH) Wayne offensive lineman Cole Newsome performed admirably at last weekend's Nike Football Sparq Combine held in Massillon, Ohio. Newsome, 6-foot-4, 290-pounds, also impressed as a junior last season for Wayne from his offensive tackle spot. He is hoping to finish his career strong this season. "Individually, I think I had a great season, but football is a team game, so I wasn't real happy with our record," Newsome stated. "I graded out the highest of our linemen, and I'm always shooting for a perfect score. I did not give up a sack all year, and I'm pretty proud of that." "My strength is my ability to come off the ball," he added. "I use my hands well and I play with good leverage. I need to work on my footwork, and I'm in the weight room trying to get stronger." Although he has not landed his first offer to date, Newsome has been in contact with college coaches. "Nobody has offered yet, but I'm hearing from Michigan State, Cincinnati, Toledo, Nebraska, Indiana, Wisconsin and Kentucky," he explained. "I've been to junior days at Michigan State, Indiana and Kentucky, and loved all three schools." "I plan on going back to all three schools this spring, and I will be going to Toledo next Friday," he noted.
