Talented, but still under the radar, 2012 figures to be the year high school football fans and recruitniks find out about Detroit Country Day's Tyler Wiegers.
"I was on varsity behind a senior, but I got a lot of playing time," he said of his sophomore campaign.
At 6'3, 187-lbs with an accurate and live arm, Wiegers has the prerequisites successful quarterbacks need. He also has already begun hearing from colleges, mostly those close to home.
"I've heard from Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Michigan State, Toledo and Michigan. They've invited me up to camps and stuff."
Because of his age, these schools are under many restrictions with Wiegers, but he says the Spartans and Wolverines are schools he hopes to take a closer look at soon.
"I'm going to be going up for a visit to State next week, but that's the only one so far. The Michigan coaches came by the school to check in with our coaches on a couple different players, including me."
Both schools are likely destination for camps as Wiegers turns the page to the spring and summer months.
"I just got finished with basketball season, so now I'm on the school's weight program, so I lift four times a week and I throw either with my 7 on 7 team or my team three times a week and I'm working on speed and agility training as well."
