2014 Cornerback Prospect Chris Hardeman picked up his second offer today from Texas A&M. The 5’9 178-pound recruit received his first offer from SMU just a few days ago, but now the Aggies have begun the chase for the talented defensive back.
“I went up to College Station for an unofficial visit on Friday,” Hardeman said. “Marcel Yates (Defensive Coordinator) said he needed my transcript. I sent it to him today. Yates and Kevin Sumlin (Head Coach) watched my film then called me. They told me they wanted to offer me a full scholarship.”
During his day trip to Texas A&M this weekend, Hardeman said he was impressed by the whole layout and feel of the campus. He even said he could picture himself playing as an Aggie.
“I liked everything about the Texas A&M,” Hardeman said. “I like the culture there. I liked everything. I could see myself playing there in the future. I have a real good relationship with coach Yates. He’s a real good guy. We had a chance to see the renovations they are doing to the weight room and look at the old weight room. I talked with coach Clarence McKinney (Running Backs/Recruiting Coordinator) as well. I have a good vibe about Texas A&M right now.”
But, what really stood out to Hardeman about Texas A&M was the significance the school places on academics within the football program.
“I knew Texas A&M was a top-notch school,” Hardeman said. “When I went up there that’s what I saw. We talked to the Academic Center and they have a good program set up to make sure athletes can actually graduate. I like that about Texas A&M a lot. They told us it was the most important part of the tour—the academics section. I like how it’s not just about playing football at Texas A&M.”
Hardeman will also be taking a visit down to Baton Rouge, LA this Saturday to see LSU’s spring game. He also said that’s a chance he will make a stop in Austin, Texas for the Longhorn’s spring game.
“I haven’t gotten a chance to see LSU yet,” Hardeman said. “I’m going this weekend to see what they have to offer. I want to look at academics and the family atmosphere. I like coach Les Miles (head coach) a lot. I want to see how he is in person. And I want to hear from Tyrann Mathieu that’s my favorite player. I want to talk to the defensive coordinator (John Chavis) and ask how they would use me in their system.”
