Scout.com: What were your stats/honors from last season?
Nick Farina: "This past season I finished with 104 tackles which was second in the state for DB's, according to maxpreps. I also had 4 Interceptions, 9 pass break-ups, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. After the season I was selected as 2nd team All-State, 1st team All-Southeast Valley, 1st team All-City, 1st team All-Section and the Defensive MVP of the Division 1 State Championship team."
What is your official height and weight?
"My official height/weight is 5'11", 182 pounds. My goal is to get up to 190 by the start of the season."
What is your greatest football memory?
"My greatest football memory would definitely be winning the Division 1 State Championship this past year, defeating the 3 time defending champs from Hamilton, when everyone counted us out."
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
"My goals for this upcoming season begin with winning another State Championship for Desert Vista. I also want to make the All-Arizona team and 1st team All-State. I want to surpass all of my stats from this season as well."
How are you preparing for the upcoming season? Will you attend any camps this summer?
"To prepare for this upcoming season I am lifting with the team 4-5 days a week, as well as going out to the fields after school for speed and agility training 3 days a week. Some of us players have also been getting together on Saturdays and going over routes and doing 1 on 1's. I am attending the Nike Training Camp in LA and Oakland. This summer I will be attending summer camps at Oregon, Stanford, ASU and U of A. The rest are undecided."
What aspect of your game have you really worked hard to improve? What area would you like to keep improving on?
"Since the season has ended I've been working hard to gain weight and become a stronger, faster football player. The area I would like to keep improving on is my 1 on 1 coverage."
Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?
"Some teammates people need to watch out for are Matt Young, Jarek Hilgers, Mitch Wehrli, Lorenzo Melvin and Kaleb Germinaro."
Name one teammate you really respect and why?
"Matt Young, he has been my work out partner for the past 2 years and he brings it everyday whether it's in the weight room, on the field or in the classroom. He's also a well-rounded person."
What are your goals regarding playing football in college?
"My goal is to play Division 1, preferably somewhere in the PAC-12."
Who is currently recruiting you? Do you have any offers yet?
"I don't have any offers yet but I have been in contact with Stanford, Oregon, Cornell, Princeton, San Jose State, South Dakota State, and University of San Diego."
Would you consider staying in state to play in college?
"I would definitely consider staying in state to play at any of the 3 big universities in Arizona."
What would your top 5 college choices be?
"Oregon, Stanford, Cal, Washington, ASU."
Who is the best player you ever played against? Why?
"Kendyl Taylor or D.J. Foster. They are both all around great players and both did damage on our defense during the regular season."
Name one opponent who you really respect and why?
"Hamilton High School because they were the only team to beat us during the regular season and they always have a solid team."
What other sports do you play?
"I've always played baseball but I decided not to play this year so that I can focus on getting better for football."

How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?
"Coach Hinds would describe me as a leader, one of the hardest workers in the program, smart, and dedicated."
What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?
"My strengths are my physicality on the field, ability to read and jump plays, and my work ethic. My weakness is trying to do too much on the field."
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
"Taylor Mays, Tyrann Mathieu and John Boyett. Taylor Mays because he's a freak and loves to hit. Tyrann Mathieu because everyone looks to him to be the guy to make a play. John Boyett because he is the safety at Oregon and I want to be the next great safety at UO, also I love the way he plays the game."
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
"Devon Kennard, Desert Vista Alumni now at USC, 'While others are sleeping, you gotta be eating.' I took this as while others aren't doing anything you gotta be working."
Tell us what can we expect from your team this season?
"We know that we're the team to beat so you can expect to get our best game every week. Another State Championship."
What position do you think you will play in college?
"I plan on playing free safety in college."
What can a college program expect from you as a player?
"A program can expect someone who will come to work hard day 1, someone who is "all in", as well as a player with good character off the field."
What is your GPA and SAT/ACT score?
"My current GPA is a 3.84, and 4.18 weighted. I am signed up to take the SAT in May."
What will the main factors be when you choose a school?
"The main factors in choosing a school will be a solid football program, strong academics, and location."
