Upland (Calif.) cornerback Delvin Batiste (5-11, 180), missed much of his junior year with a hip injury, so recruiting has been slow out of the gate.
But after a good performance this past weekend at the NLA Elite 7on7 on the I.E. Elite, Batiste is feeling good about his hip, and his future.
“I missed half the season due to a fractured hip in practice so things have been a little slow, but I feel that things will start to pick up for me,” said Batiste.
Batiste said having four-star defensive lineman Joe Mathis as a teammate is a big help.
“Having JoJo on my team of course, really helps, because everyone wants him and they’re all going to be coming by the school this spring and they’ll see him and then hopefully they’ll see me,” said Batiste.
Batiste said he’s most interested in the Pac-12 schools as well as schools like San Jose State and San Diego State and even Tulane, but is open to everyone.
“Hopefully I do enough this spring to get noticed, but if I have to wait until the season, then I’ll just work hard then,” said Batiste.
This weekend, Batiste will be at the Nike Camp in Los Angeles.
“I’m hoping to be recruited as an athlete, either as a corner or as a receiver, but I’ll play wherever,” said Batiste.
Batiste said he’s in good shape academically, with a 3.2 GPA and plans for the SAT in the spring.
