2014 Big Man Ready to Roll

The Yellow Jackets of Starkville High have come a long way in just two years under the direction of Coach Jamie Mitchell. Last year the Jackets played for the 5A state title, but failed to close things out against Picayune. Rising junior Kyle Jones believes that the team is putting in the work to get over the championship hump this fall.

Kyle Jones profile

A two way standout for Starkville, Jones was hard at work in the weight room when he stopped to talk some football.

"I expect to do the same things I did last year, but do them even better this year," said Jones. "I want to contribute on the line and do my job at strong defensive tackle.

"I want to be even better this year, so we can get back to the championship."

At 6-3 and 245, Jones is still growing and he has the frame to carry a lot more weight without hurting his athleticism.

Look for the Jones to get looks on either side of the ball from college coaches. He is open to possibilities depending on team need.

"I prefer to play defense, but I can play guard too," said Jones. "It doesn't really matter to me. I can play both."

The summer months will provide Jones to focus all of his energy on his football future on the prep and college level.

"I plan to go to a couple of camps this year and I am going to be working out a lot this summer to get stronger," said Jones.

"I have been playing basketball, but I am going to quit playing. i am going to be full time with football from now on."

Jones enjoyed running up and down the court, but he has no Hoop dreams in mind when he it comes to his future.

"My dream is to play for the Dallas Cowboys, but I know I have to have a good college career," said Jones. "I want to go to either Alabama, LSU or Mississippi State.

"I have been to some games at Mississippi State. I love the excitement before the game. I wish I was out there playing college football now."
