Will Johnson, a 6-foot-4, 285-pound, interior lineman from Lake Orion, Michigan has given the University of Michigan his verbal commitment.
Johnson had received several scholarship offers. Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State and Boston College were just a few of the schools to offer a scholarship.
Why did Johnson pick the Wolverines?
"I picked Michigan because its been a dream of mine to play for the Wolverines." Johnson said.
"I was offered a camp about two weeks ago and I decided to commit. Michigan has a great program and tradition.
"I was being recruited as a defensive tackle but I think Michigan wants me to play offensive guard now. We'll have to see what happens when I get on campus."
Johnson will be a two-year varsity starter in 2003. Last year, Will had 97 tackles and 11 sacks. He was named all-area and all-conference in 2002.
Will Johnson emerged in a big way during the May Evaluation period. He was ranked third behind Lake Orion teammates Roger Allison and Trent Varva at the beginning of the evaluation period but a solid showing at the Nike Camp as well as evaluations during May skyrocketed Johnson to the to not only the top prospect at Lake Orion but a "Top Five" prospect in Michigan as well.
