FOXSportsNext caught up with 2013 quarterback prospect Baker Mayfield out of Lake Travis High School…
Austin Hearing From SMU
2013 wide receiver prospect, Zach Austin, out of Lake Travis High School has already taken visits to two Junior Days this spring for both SMU and North Texas. "I liked them both," Austin said. "The campus' were really nice. Both athletic facilities were really nice. SMU was really laidback. Baker Mayfield and I went in and talked with Jason Phillips (Offensive Coordinator). I feel like SMU would be a good fit." Austin also enjoyed his visit to North Texas and feels that their program is on the rise. "North Texas is an up and coming program," Austin said. "They just got a new coach and this past year they kind of flipped their whole program around, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they have in store for this next year." Earlier this year, Austin drove up to Houston for a few games and he plans to attend UTSA's spring game in a few weeks. As far as what he wants to find in a school, Austin is looking more at how the offense is run rather than the environment around the program. "I could see myself fitting in anywhere with a spread offense," Austin said. "I want to go somewhere that throws the ball a lot, so I can be more involved in the game than I would with a running team." Austin's head coach, Hank Carter, had a lot to say about the talented receiver. "He's such a fluid athlete," Carter said. "He's so quick. He has great hands. He's about 6-feet tall, but his hands are probably the size of a guy that's 6'5. There's nothing stiff about him. He tears us up at practice we have a hard time covering him. He's great after the catch. He's not just a guy that's going to catch it and be down. He's really tough to tackle in space. I'm excited to see him start getting more and more interest."
