Smith Heading Home for the Weekend

Akron, Ohio product Corey Smith was one of the top receiving prospects in the country during his senior season at Buchtel High School. Smith elected to back off of a spring commitment to the University of Tennessee and eventually went the junior college route. After a season at Grand Rapids, Smith is now enrolled at East Mississippi Community College.

"Right now I am really working hard on all of my academics," said Smith. "That is my main focus right now.

"I am working hard to get everything together, so I can get out in December."

A school close to his Akron home is monitoring his academic progress pretty closely.

"I am going up to Ohio State this weekend for the spring game," said Smith. "They are going to that spread now and I know Coach Urban Meyer is going to do some big things up there.

"I have been talking with them some and they told me that if get all of my work done and can get out in December that they are probably going to offer me."

The Buckeyes' proximity to Smith's home base would certainly help their cause should they elect to offer.

With a few weeks left in the spring semester, Smith claims offers from Alabama, Cincinnati, Georgia, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Syracuse, Tennessee, Washington and West Virginia.

The talented wide out reports that a school close to his current location appears to be making him a priority in their recruiting efforts.

"Mississippi State is really recruiting me hard," said Smith. "Coach told me that they are losing five receivers and that they need a big play receiver like me to come in and play early.

"I am really just learning about them, but they act like they really want me to come in and be a part of their program."

Smith reports that he is in no hurry to end his recruitment and that he is going to take his time with his deliberations.

"I am pretty happy with how everything is going right now," said Smith. "I already have a lot of offers and there are a lot of schools interested in me.

"I am going to take my time with everything and be sure I get all of my class work together, so I can get out in December." Recommended Stories
