Scout.com's #73 rated outside linebacker has visited Clemson, Florida State, and South Carolina so far this spring and this weekend he will visit two more SEC schools from the Magnolia state.

"I am going to Ole Miss today, and I will be leaving to Mississippi State after the Rebel spring game tomorrow to go see State," added Mario Mathis.

The Thomasville resident was offered by Ole Miss recently.

"They said they can't wait to see me Friday. Coach (Hugh) Freeze is dying to meet me and thinks I am the kind of player that fits well in their defensive scheme because of my character and my willingness to work hard."

Mathis will be hoping to find out a couple things about Ole Miss while on the trip.

"I want to just meet coach Freeze and see where I stand. I want to see if it is spiritual like they say it is. I have been talking to coaches (Derrick) Nix and Freeze a lot lately. I am excited to meet their linebacker coach too. My parents are coming with me. They are excited too."

Mississippi State also put their name in the offer hat recently.

"They offered me a few days ago. I do not even know how they found me. My coach just called me and said they offered and then I spoke with coach (John) Hevesy and he told me I had an offer. It came out of left field because I had not even been getting any letters from them and then boom I get an offer. Coach Hevesy said they liked my film, but they did not know about my surgery."

Mario tore his ACL and had surgery on it in the offseason.

"I played with a torn ACL all year. I did not even know it was torn. I am rehabbing it hard and it's been three and half months since I ran on it but I started running again recently. It feels great. I am only two to three months away from being back 100%."

A lot of colleges are on a "wait and see" approach before formally offering.

"Florida State, Clemson, and South Carolina want to see me play when I am healthy and see how I look. I don't take offense to any of it because I know when everyone starts seeing me play on my leg this fall the offers will start coming. They will wish they had offered me earlier."

Mario has an older brother who plays baseball for Clemson.

"My older brother plays there, but I have to wait and see what happens. They say Ole Miss is exactly like Clemson. They are in a country town that just loves their football. That's what people from around here who have been to both schools tell me. I can't wait to see it for myself. The Clemson and Ole Miss coaches are a lot like too, spiritually. I like that. They both want you to become a man and it's a family atmosphere. They are real similar schools and Clemson is only taking 17 signees. They said it is a wait and see thing for me. They just want to see me play when I am healthy."

Florida State has his best friend on the team, and they could be the team to beat, if offered.

"Everybody just knows me there. Coach Greg Hudson is like a father to me. His son is my best friend and the atmosphere is awesome there. The players are awesome. Everything is just great down there. Like Clemson, they just want to see me play on my leg before they make a decision.
