Q & A with Phoenix (Ariz.) Paradise Valley offensive lineman What were your stats/honors from last season?
Patrick Johnson:
"My honors were most improved player, and also 2nd team all-conference."

What is your official height and weight?
"6 foot 3 inches and 275 pounds."

What is your greatest football memory?
"Our game against Thunderbird High School. We were down 26 points with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter and won in overtime. With running the ball between me and the tackle for the win."

What are your goals for the upcoming season?
"My goals for this season is to be the best offensive lineman in my division, and also be top 5 in the State."

How are you preparing for the upcoming season? Will you attend any camps this summer?
"I'm preparing for this season with training everyday for making my feet quicker and working to get stronger and more explosive each and everyday. I plan on going to a couple camps to showcase my hard work."

What aspect of your game have you really worked hard to improve? What area would you like to keep improving on?
"I have really been working on making my feet quicker an just being quick in general. I feel like I can improve my strength and explosiveness throughout the summer."

Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?
"I have a few in mind that I think will be definite game changers throughout the season. Ryan Finley our quarterback that has committed to Boise State is going to dominate. Also one of our receivers Joey Gatewood is really working hard to be the best he can at his position. Then finally on the defensive side of the ball, our linebacker Tanner Flesher should have a breakout season this year."

Name one teammate you really respect and why?
"Ryan Finley is the first to come to mind, he's a leader on and off the field. Nobody has to question his work ethic and he's always trying to make himself better."

What are your goals regarding playing football in college?
"I want to be able to contribute to my college teams success as soon as possible."

Who is currently recruiting you? Do you have any offers yet?
"At this moment I don't have any offers, I'm going to stay positive until colleges start showing more interest in me."

Would you consider staying in state to play in college?
"I have considered staying in state for college."

What would your top 5 college choices be?
"My top five colleges would have to be Boise State, USC, ASU, SDSU, Michigan State."

Who is the best player you ever played against? Why?
"The best player would have to be D.J. Foster, he was very elusive and too quick to tackle."

Name one opponent who you really respect and why?
"One program I really respect would have to be Cactus High School, they are a tough team that is coached very well with a lot of discipline."

What other sports do you play?
"I throw discus and shot put for our track team."

What are your best max lifts in the bench, squat, power clean and 40 yard dash?
"I bench 325, my squat is 475, my power clean is 285 and I run a 5.1 40 yard dash time."

How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?
"My coach would tell you I'm one of the hardest workers he has. He knows I'm the leader of the team and a great role model for all the under classmen. He knows I have bought into the program and I'll do anything for the team."

What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?
"My strengths would definitely have to be my intensity I bring to the game and also my knowledge of football, my weakness that I have to work on is staying positive no matter the adversity I have to deal with."

Who is your favorite athlete and why?
"My favorite athlete would have to be Larry Fitzgerald. He is the hardest worker in the NFL and is always working to get better."

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
"The best piece of advice I've gotten would have to be from my head coach and he told our team, 'Work wins when wishing won't.' That really got me thinking because everyone wants to win a championship but it's the work you put into it, is how you get there."

Tell us what can we expect from your team this season?
"Our season is going to be very promising this year, we're going to have a explosive offense like we did last year. Then our defense is really looking up. We have the coaches and the players to get where we want to go. It's just time to work hard."

What position do you think you will play in college?
"In college I will play either guard or center."

What can a college program expect from you as a player?
"The college program that I go to will expect a hard worker that will never settle for anything other then perfection. I will also bring a positive outlook on everything and work to make myself better each and every day."

What is your GPA and SAT/ACT score?
"My GPA is a 3.65 and I'm taking my SAT and ACT this month."

What will the main factors be when you choose a school?
"The main factors I look at in a school is how big of a part there football program is there, the location and the academic part of a school is very important also."
