Fort Wayne (Ind.) Bishop Luers five-star outside linebacker Jaylon Smith is a rare breed. After speaking with him on Sunday, I merely walked away thinking to myself, "Wow, what a great kid!"
Smith has the body of an NFL linebacker, but deep down he is still just a humble, young teenager that loves to compete. He also knows that schools from across the country are tripping over themselves to see him, so he uses that to help his teammates in high school, as well as his AWP 7on7 teammates.
The unassuming star, knows that his presence at these types of events is a draw for media and recruiting folks from multiple websites. That in turn helps other players get noticed.
Much of the discussion about Smith and college always seems to center on Notre Dame and Ohio State, but he is keeping his options open. He always makes sure that he mentions other in-state schools such as Indiana and Purdue.
Here is a video interview with the well-spoken, All-American linebacker.
