Woodbridge (Va.) High defensive lineman Da'Shawn Hand (6’5/245) is undoubtedly one top 2014 prospects in the country. After a monster sophomore year, schools from across the country are pursuing Hand.
“Recruiting is going well, I have 24 offers,” said Hand. “It feels good to get all this attention, but I don’t want to get big-headed. I have got to stay grounded.”
Despite all the attention, Hand has not shifted his focus to recruiting.
“Right now, I am just enjoying being a kid,” he said. “I know coaches will start contacting me on September 1.”
Hand already knows two places he will camp this summer.
“I am going to camp at Alabama and Virginia Tech,” he said.
Although he is only a sophomore, Hand already has an idea of what he is looking for in a school.
“I am looking for somewhere that has good academics, good campus life, and a great coaching staff,” he said.
The Vikings’ star has a great work ethic and is really working hard to improve on certain aspects of his game.
“I am working on improving my quickness and technique,” he said.
The Woodbridge standout could play any position on the defensive line in college, but said he would prefer to play defensive end. Hand is a tremendous athlete. He possesses the rare combination great speed and power. The defensive lineman has great feet and plays with good leverage. Last season, Hand registered 21 sacks, 84 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. He bench presses 320 pounds, squats, 550 and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds
