The Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian 2015 offensive lineman, Reno Rosene, has a childhood favorite...

When Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian offensive lineman Reno Rosene (6-6, 305), was called up to varsity as a freshman this fall, he thought it would be a nice way to introduce himself to varsity football for the next few years.

By the end of the season, Rosene was named a Freshman All-American after helping the Lions move on to the CIF-SS Northern Division Finals.

“I saw the All-American team and I got real excited and was proud of myself,” said Rosene. “It was awesome being up there on that list. It’s a huge confidence builder. It makes you want to get going and then be a Sophomore All-American.”

Rosene, though, said the jump was a big one for him.

“It’s a big jump playing for the Ventura Packers to then playing against a team like Westlake,” said Rosene. “The game speed changes so much but being thrown into that over summer, it got me really prepared so it wasn’t as tough as I thought it might be. It was great having role models on the team this year like Carlos Mendoza (who signed with Arizona State) and Ishmael Adams (who inked with UCLA) that helped me adjust.”

While Rosene has a little less than three years till he can sign a letter-of-intent, the likelihood remains that he’ll have his pick of the litter when that day comes.

But since he’s still wrapping up his freshman year, recruiting hasn’t really taken off. Yet.

“I’ve gotten some questionnaires but nothing big because I’m just a freshman and can’t really get a whole lot yet,” said Rosene.

Rosene, though, does have an early favorite school.

“I’ve always been a real big fan of USC,” said Rosene. “Matt Kalil is my favorite player and I really liked his play. He’s big and fast and athletic, which is what you need as a tackle.”

But Rosene said he’ll be open to everyone, in-state schools like UCLA, Cal and Stanford and several other Pac-12 schools as well as national programs.

“I really like all of the big name schools,” said Rosene. “Anyone who wants to give me offer, I’d be listening to them. Football is what I want to do though. I have some goals I’ve set and I’m working hard, but I have a lot of time, so I’m focusing on school.”

Through the spring of his freshman year, Rosene is carrying a 3.6 and said he’s not going to be taking any tests for a while.

“I have some time till I have to take the SAT or ACT, but I’m working really hard to keep my grades up,” said Rosene.

In the meantime, aside from prepping for his sophomore season with the Lions, who will move into the Pac-5 this fall, he’s planning to attend some camps this spring and summer.

“I do want to try to go to some camps and see where I stand with some other guys,” said Rosene. “I still have a lot to work on as a player.”

Rosene has played primarily on the right side, but anticipates moving to the left side at some point.

“I played right guard and then moved to right tackle, and I do want to try to go to the left side soon,” said Rosene.

At 305 as a freshman, Rosene knows he could add more weight as he develops, but doesn’t want to add any more.

“I want to stay around 300 pounds and get more athletic,” said Rosene.
