"About a month ago I went to UCF," Washington said. "I also went to Auburn, Miami, and Florida (for Junior Days). I also recently went on a spring break trip to South Carolina, Georgia Tech, NC State, and Duke."
So what did Washington learn from seeing all those schools?
"They had a nice facilities, nice campus, and everything," he said. "I really enjoyed them all. It's gonna be a hard decision. I'm cutting down the visits now. After spring, I'll take more visits to Vanderbilt and Wake Forest and schools like that."
Washington, 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, isn't ready to single out a group of favorites but plans on doing that soon.
"I will probably start with a top 15 and then start cutting it down from there," he said.
Two in-state schools he's already visited haven't offered yet -- Miami and Florida.
"Hopefully in the spring they will. I'm not waiting though. The ones I have, I'll focus on. If they offer, they offer but I wont be waiting around."
Washington grew up a Miami fan and that's also where his head coach, Kenard Lang, once played.
"They're recruiting a small class this year," he said. "If they do end up offering, great. If not, I'll be focusing on the schools putting their interest in me."
The standout defender, who finished last season with 55 tackles and 6.5 sacks, talked about what he'll be looking for in a school.
"I wanna take my time. Academics, I'm a big academic person, a family environment. You cant go for coaches because coaching staffs get shuffled around all the time. I wanna go where I can see myself being comfortable. I tell all the coaches, when I step on campus, I wanna feel it. That's where I'll go."
