Edwards Hits Double-Digits
After a busy Tuesday with a trio of schools visiting Tottenville (Staten Island, NY) High School, running back Augustus Edwards was taken back by what happened on Wednesday when he picked up offer No. 10 as Virginia pulled the trigger. "It was surprising," he said. "After my last class, I was on my way to lifting and the coach (UVA running backs coach Mike Faragalli) called me in there and he told me that he heard about me. He gave me his card, invited me to a camp and then I left. When I left, my coach showed my highlight tape to him, so he called me back in there and just offered me. "He said ‘you do have an offer from us, your tape is impressive. That's some impressive stuff.'" -- Edwards' junior tape is available here "It's a blessing that all these schools want me," he continued. "It's a good feeling." Faragalli pitched the location to Edwards after the offer to go along with its academic prestige. "He told me how it's a top two public school in the country, academically," said Edwards. "He told me it's beautiful there and he wants to get me up there, though it's a seven hour ride. It would have to be in the summer or something." With the Cavaliers waiting to see him in person before offering, Edwards has begun to notice that his stature has programs hesitating a bit. "A lot of schools, it seems like they want to see if I'm really as big as I am on my highlight tape – so they want to see me before offering me," he said with a laugh. "That's what Indiana did. I actually just got off the phone with Boston College and they keep asking me questions about my size. He was like ‘are you sure?' So they are going to send someone to see me in person, same thing with N.C. State and Oregon. "Those are good schools, so that's a good look." The surprise of Wednesday was preceded by a busier day. Edwards, who was visited by Alabama, Syracuse and Pittsburgh on Tuesday, felt on offer from the National Champions has been a bit overdue since they have been in talks with him for over a year. While the Orange and Panthers have offered, it was the Tide that taped one of Edwards' workout before leaving for the day – but not before inviting the three-star to a one-day camp in the summer. SU and Pitt departed sooner than later, but not before reminding Edwards of their recruiting boards. "They both told me I'm the guy they want," he said of the visits. As Edwards may add offers over the next week, stay on FOX Sports Next and Scout for the latest on him and the rest of the Class of 2013.
