Six Standing out for Commissiong
Bishop McNamara (MD) High School is home to three of the top 2013 prospects in the state and arguably the top 2014 prospect as well. As one would imagine, programs have flocked to the campus to take a look at the group as the Spring evaluation period continues. "Carolina, Purdue, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, Michigan, Maryland, Virginia, Wake Forest," said junior defensive tackle Darius Commissiong after laughing at the thought of trying to remember each school that has come by to talk to he and his teammates. The 6-foot-3, 305-pounder admitted that the decision process has been delayed with so many schools in the mix, but Georgia Tech remains the school after him the most at this point. "I'll definitely say they're recruiting me the hardest," said Commisssiong. "Coach (Al) Groh has been up to my school two times already and he'll be back for a third time in a couple of weeks. "I talk to him every once and a while…he and I had a good conversation when he watched me work out last week. I have a good relationship with him." While he wouldn't call Georgia Tech the leader for him at this point, he admitted that the Yellow Jackets are "up there." When asked who else is in that same category, Commissiong revealed a handful of schools that are standing out along with Tech. "North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Michigan and Iowa," he said. "As of right now, that's who's standing out because later on in the spring my offer list could double, so things are always subject to change." The plan in the short-term is to stand by while more schools enter the mix. "Right now just go through the spring and workout, see what the schools are saying," said Commissiong. "I had said that I was going to narrow down the list before the spring (ended), but after all the schools that came through talking about they're going to offer – it was like well maybe I should back up. "So right before the season I should have the list narrowed-down." That filtered list will be categorized by his feelings on schools he has already visited, so summer trips will be critical for the remainder of his recruitment. "I definitely want to go see Michigan, I want to go see Iowa, after talking to Coach (Odell) Haggins I want to go down to Florida State, I want to go down to Georgia Tech during the summer time," said Commissiong. "Coach (David) Duggan really wants me to go back down to Carolina and probably Coach (Zach) Smith, after the conversation we had – I'll probably go out with (2014 teammate) Damian (Prince) to Ohio State." The McNamara group has carved out some visits together, and there has been talk of at least two going to the same college – but it won't be the deciding factor for any of them. "It's definitely there, but it's not the biggest thing," he admitted. So what is Commissiong looking for on the upcoming visits to help narrow his list? "Honestly, just a family atmosphere and a second home," he said. "When I go on a visit and everything feels right, the atmosphere is there and the relationship with the coaching staff is a familiarity. "I'm going to spend the next four years of my life somewhere and I want it to be home, and one thing I'm taking into consideration after talking to my coaches and all of the coaches that's come through the school – even if (a school) is far from home and football doesn't pan out, it's somewhere where I can get a job and somewhere that prepares me for life."
