Profile: Justin Davis
Position: Running Back
Location: Stockton (Calif.) Lincoln
Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 195 pounds
Recruiting: Davis was offered by the Trojans at their Junior Day last February and the moment they did, they immediately jumped to the top of his list. The athlete narrowed his choices to also include California and Washington and visited both but it would have been a huge surprise if Davis ended up anywhere other than USC.
What to Like: There’s a reason Davis is rated the No. 3 back in the nation. He’s the total package of what you’re looking for in an every down college running back. He has good size with the frame to add additional weight. He’s a physical runner who’s just as comfortable running between the tackles as he is bouncing it to the outside. Davis knows how to finish a play off and is always falling forward at the end of the play and shows good hands out of the backfield as well.
What may be of concern: There really aren’t many corners with Davis as a prospect. Some question whether or not he has elite, breakaway speed but he doesn’t appear to have any issues running away from defenders on tape and he played against one of the toughest schedules in the Northern California region last season.
Overall Analysis: It was an incredible week for the Trojans. Not only did they land Davis but pulled in a commitment from Joliet Catholic (Ill.) athlete Ty Isaac, the nation’s No. 1 rated RB, on Tuesday. Running back was the biggest position of need for USC and landing two of the nation’s top three backs was an incredible haul.
