West Jefferson is expected to make a run at the Class 5A state title this fall. In our recent preseason 5A rankings, the Buccaneers occupied the No. 2 slot behind defending state champ West Monroe. Yesterday, West Jeff flashed a glimpse of its potential when the Bucs advanced to the championship game at the Big Man On Campus 7v7 Tourney held on the West Bank of New Orleans at Behrman Stadium.

West Jefferson was without the services of 6-4 WR Quanties Armand yesterday (injury), but the Buccaneers have two more explosive wideouts in three-star Ronald Lewis and Devin Scott.

Scott has multiple offers, and Lewis said he favors TCU, Texas A&M and Baylor.

Arizona State and Tulane are making strong pushes to land Lewis, as well.

West Jeff gave the Louisiana Bootleggers Elite squad a tussle in the championship game yesterday. The Bootleggers, boosted by LSU commits Jeryl Brazil, John Diarse and Tre'Davious White, outlasted the Bucs, 33-27.

West Jeff reached the first round of the Class 5A playoffs last year before getting bounced by Byrd. The team has a nice nucleus on offense returning and could make a run at the 5A crown if the pieces fit together correctly over the next several months.
