Titus Charles (6-1 1/2, 300) says he has been hearing from local program Tulane.
"Coach David Johnson at Tulane likes my playing style," said Charles, who racked up 65 tackles and 10 sacks last year. "They say I'm quick and physical, and that they're interested."
Tulane currently has three Edna Karr alumni on its football roster, including Matt Bailey, who played LB/S on the 2010 state runner-up squad that took heavily-favored Franklinton to overtime.
Charles says he has heard from Miami, which has a verbal pledge from four-star Karr TE Standish Dobard. In addition, he's been in contact with UL (Ragin' Cajuns), Southern Miss and Arkansas State.
This summer, Charles plans to camp at Miami, Baylor Houston, UL and Southern Miss. He reports a 5.0 in the 40-yard dash.
Karr's defensive front last year was a true "fearsome foursome" with Charles joining Florida International signees Leonard Washington (DT) and Darrian Dyson (DE), as well as '14 DE Gerald Willis, who already holds several BCS offers.
Only Charles and Washington made first-team all-state, however.
With Washington and Dyson gone, what can we expect from Karr's defensive front this year?
"Gerald and I will have to step up," said Charles, who identifies the strengths of his game as "quickness and (a) "good pass rusher."
After having finished 4A state runner-up to Franklinton and Neville in 2010 and 2011, respectively, Charles and his teammates want to assert themselves and get that elusive state title.
"I plan to contribute and step up big," said Charles. "We want to go back to state and win it."
Will Charles and Willis line up on the same side?
"Last year we were on the same side, but this year he's going to be on the strong side," said Charles. "We'll be on opposite sides."
