Harris Talks Top Five
Programs have traveled to Marietta (GA) High School by the bundles this spring to see Elite 11 finalist Anthony Jennings in action, but his primary target is much closer to making a decision. 6-foot-2, 184-pound WR Tyree Harris. Several of the schools to offer him have also been by Blue Devil practices to see the smooth route-runner and play-maker, who maintains that he will announce his college choice on June 22. Before that point, he will get out and see a few schools for camps in hopes of landing more offers. "Right before the 7on7 tournament in California, I plan on making three visits," said Harris. "Mississippi State, Kentucky and Clemson. Whoever offers, offers. Whoever doesn't, doesn't." Harris holds an offer from the Bulldogs, and he's awaiting extensions from the Wildcats and Tigers. Still, there are another pair of schools that made the cut in his top five – although the quintet is not set in stone. "Right now, I got my mindset on a couple of schools that I'm interested in," he admitted. "Syracuse, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Clemson and Missouri. "Those schools, I like a lot, but I know there will be more offers coming in before then." The Orange and Mizzou Tigers are also among his seven verbal offers to this point. Harris touched on each of his top five shortly after releasing the list to Scout. Syracuse: "I haven't been up there for a visit, but the coach, Nathaniel Hackett, came down for the spring game and I met him a couple of times. He really likes me a lot and I want to get the chance to go up there and visit since they came down here." Mississippi State: "I went up there two times, for their junior day and just to see how their spring practice was going. I really liked Mississippi State and my mom loves Mississippi State – she thinks it's the best fit for me. At the same time, it's my decision, so I'm going to eliminate colleges and see what fits me the best." Kentucky: "I like Kentucky a lot. When I went up there for their basketball game and their junior day, they showed me a lot of interest and I really like Kentucky a lot." Clemson: "I really want to play with my best friend (CB) Ryan Jenkins, me and him were going to plan on going to the same college but if Clemson doesn't work, they'll be in the elimination. I'm still going to their camp to see how I do up there. But when I went to Clemson, I really liked the area and I got to hang out with Sammy Watkins and all of them and we had a great time." Missouri: "I had spoken to the coaches a couple of times, and I liked them. I met with the offensive coordinator (David Yost) and wide receivers coach – they just let me know that they really want me. They want me to be a big part of their offense, and they let me know they were coming to the SEC. That caught my interest a lot, because of playing in the SEC." Harris wants to learn more about each school's academics and what the school offers outside of football before sitting down with his mother to make the final decision next month.
