JUCO DT Fenumiai Getting Interest
Riverside (Calif.) College defensive tackle Lawrence Fenumiai had an impressive redshirt freshman season with the Tigers, posting thirty-six tackles and six sacks. With one more season left at Riverside, Fenumiai is poised to make an even greater impact. "No one can really push me around. I love being out there, being able to smack people around. I know there are some big boys out there, but I'm a bigger boy," he laughed. The 6'4", 285 lb. prospect has had the experience of playing football in different parts of the country. Originally from Juneau, Alaska, Fenumiai attended Arizona Western and redshirted in 2010. However, he ultimately decided to head to California to finish out his junior college career. "I played at Arizona Western, but had some things going on over there and I've been at Riverside since last February. I had redshirted at Arizona Western, so it had been a while since I had been on the field. It was pretty cool," he said. With three years of eligibility left, Fenumiai, who also plays defensive end, has caught the eye of a few college programs. "I've talked with some scouts. Some of the coaches knew who I was from high school, so that was good. I've gotten some interest from Arkansas and a few other schools. I'm definitely trying to transfer," he said. One particular program has caught his attention. "I'm an island boy, so I'm trying to go down to Hawaii; one of their coaches came down to practice," he said. For the next few months, Fenumiai plans to continue to hit both the field and weight room hard while also focusing on his academics. "I'm just continuing working on my hands and my feet. I'd like to get a little bigger, but I'm trying to keep my speed," he said.
