Oakley (Calif.) Freedom 2014 running back Joe Mixon was one of the standout underclassmen at the Oakland NFTC last month, earning all-underclass honors.
The 6-0, 195-pounder, doesn’t have any offers yet, but there is plenty of attention being paid him.
It certainly doesn’t hurt Mixon that one of his teammates is Darrell Daniels, the top 2013 receiver in the West, and a prospect that numerous coaches have stopped by to check in on.
“I’ve talked to a couple of schools that came to see Darrell, and they sounded like they’re interested in me,” said Mixon. “They’ve basically all said that later on in my junior season, they will be looking at me and my film.”
And Mixon said he thinks some offers could come even before that.
“A few schools are even looking at me during the summer and seeing if I come to their camps,” said Mixon. “I’m not sure which camps I’m going to, but I’d like to.”
Mixon said in the week after the NFTC, that Washington State and Washington specifically checked in on him while also looking at Daniels.
But its two other schools he has his eye on early.
“My first two choices would be Alabama and USC,” said Mixon. “But I’m just taking it one step at a time.”
Mixon said he was happy with his performance at the NFTC.
“I thought I did real good there,” said Mixon. “The running backs coach was impressed with me.”
Last fall, Mixon ran for 1,134 yards on 171 carries and scored 13 touchdowns as a sophomore and added 14 tackles and an interception.
