6-foot-5 offensive lineman Derek Edwards has caught the Terps attention for his size and his play…
Edwards Hitting the Road
Detroit Catholic Central guard prospect Derek Edwards currently stands at four offers (Arizona, Central Michigan, Toledo and Western Michigan), and is hoping that good camp showings over the next month will help him add a few more. "The first of them will be Cincinnati on the 11th," the 6'5, 270-lb Edwards said, "then we're going to Michigan State the 16th, Maryland the 27th, Syracuse the 30th, then we're going to go to Central and Toledo. They're in-between so I don't know the exact dates." There also have been a couple of new schools jump into the mix. "I talked to Georgia Tech yesterday and there's a possibility I would go to their camp July 20th. We're looking into that. Ball State came in and said hello." Since he is coming off an injury, these camps are vital for Edwards to not only show his abilities, but also that he's healthy. If he can do that, schools have told him offers could be imminent. "Syracuse told me if I perform well at camp, they will [offer]. With my whole knee thing, Michigan State, because a lot of that stuff where I might not be able to do 1-1s if my knee's not 100%, they're going to wait until the first couple games of the season to make sure everything's fine and they'll jump on from there, but Maryland, Cincinnati and Michigan State all said the camp will be a big yes or no thing for them." Edwards had said that he'd like to make a decision before his senior season, but that has changed now. "I wanted to, but I think we might hold off until the season now." By the time he does that, he hopes to have a few more options and he knows June will be the month he has the chance to add them. "That's where we're going to take our next step."
