Katy was ranked No. 4 in the nation in the preseason of 2011. The 5A program from the west Houston metro area is always strong. The Tigers went 12-1 in 2011 and were upset in the second round of the playoffs by LaPorte, 9-7.
Jake Blomstrom will take even more of a leadership role this fall, and he talks about a couple of camps.
"OU went really good," he said of the Sooners. "There were a lot of good things like the seven-on-seven. The coaches liked that I was fundamentally sound, and said they were going to keep in touch with me. Their linebackers coach might come to some of my games.
"At Texas Tech, the biggest thing they like is my knowledge of the game and aggressiveness - that I'm not afraid. Texas A&M's linebackers coach wants me to come to their camp. I did really good in one-on-one drills at Texas Tech against tight ends and running backs.
Jake's family says he likes Oklahoma a lot, and that he likes their history. He feels it's a great place to go. The Sooners' staff told Blomstrom he's in a good spot on their '14 LBs board.
Katy went 13-1 in 2010 and 14-2 in '09. Blomstrom's head coach is Gary Joseph. The Tigers have a highly-rated '13 prospect in four-star RB Adam Taylor.
He's camping next at Texas Tech and Texas A&M.
