Dodson Visits Starkville

Whitehaven running back Mark Dodson committed to Ole Miss a few weeks back, but other programs of interest continue to maintain contact with the budding star. On Sunday, Dodson, a few teammates and head football coach Rodney Saulsberry spent some time at Mississippi State as the Bulldogs' summer camp session rolled on.

"The coaches wanted me to come down here to talk to them and stuff," said Dodson of Mississippi State. "I came down here with some of my teammates. I have been traveling with them and wishing them the best of luck."

Dodson reports that he was able to speak first hand with some of the Mississippi State coaches while on campus. Both parties agreed to have a more formal get together this fall.

"I talked with the coaches and I am going to take my official visit here when they play Texas A&M," said Dodson.

The Memphis, Tennessee standout reports that he maintains his commitment to Ole Miss and that he has been a little perplexed as to where rumors of him changing positions in college have come from.

"Ole Miss is strictly recruiting me as a running back," said Dodson. "I am not sure where the talk of me playing cornerback started.

"I want to play running back. I feel like I am more valuable at running back."

Dodson credits his relationship with Ole Miss' running backs coach Derrick Nix as one of the key factors in his decision to commit to the Rebels.

"Coach Nix is a great guy," said Dodson. "I am in summer school now. Coach Nix wants me to come early.

"He said that I can be their guy and he believes I can come right in and produce real well.

"I have a relationship with Deuce (McAllister) too. It's building up.

"I talk to them pretty much every week."

Dodson says he recently made another unofficial visit to the Oxford campus.

"I was by there a week or two ago," said Dodson. "I went up there with my teammates to support them when they went to camp.

"I am going to take my official visit up there when they play Texas. Right now the official visits to Ole Miss and Mississippi State are the only ones I have set up."
