Two on Top for Booker
Byrnes High School in Duncan, S.C. has been a high school football power for decades. Fresh off their fourth state title in five years, the Rebels appear to be primed for another big season. One of the state's top playmakers, wide receiver Akia Booker (6'1/205), was instrumental in the team's championship run last season. It should come as no surprise that Booker is attracting interest from numerous college programs. "Recruiting is going pretty good," said Booker. "South Carolina, Tennessee, and North Carolina are really after me right now. Clemson, Tulsa, and Notre Dame are also recruiting me. I have an offer from Tennessee. I think South Carolina or Clemson will be the next to offer me…most likely South Carolina." The Byrnes' star will be busy with his high school team this summer, but he is scheduled to attend two camps." "I am going to camp at South Carolina and Tennessee," he said. "Those are the ones I have scheduled so far. South Carolina and Tennessee are my two leaders right now." Booker has an idea of how he will handle the recruiting process. "I would like to narrow my list of schools down by the time school starts back, before the first game, said Booker. "I will probably hold out on making a decision until signing day." The wide receiver feels good about his team's chances this season. "We have our whole offensive line coming back," he said. "We only lost one receiver and one running back." Last season Booker had 80 catches for 1,284 yards and 21 touchdowns. He bench presses 305 pounds, squats 415, and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds.
