Tulane head coach Curtis Johnson and his staff have been putting in hard work on the recruiting…
Recruiting Update: LB Duke Riley
Duke Riley visited Ole Miss with teammates, including CB Jacolby Cooper, CB Mattrell McGraw and WR Malachi Dupre. The Rebels and Green Wave have offered both Riley and Dupre. "I'm not surprised they offered Malachi," said Riley. "Every school in the U.S. is going to be after him. He's very talented and wants to be good, too." The Rebels also offered another '14 prospect at John Curtis: CB Terrence Alexander. "The Ole Miss coaches told me they like Terrence," said Riley. "They told me they were going to offer him. "My trip to Ole Miss went good. I got one-on-one time talking with the coaches. They talked about how they will run their defense as a new staff, and I would fit in perfectly there. It's beautiful at Ole Miss. Some people said how nice it was going to be, but I didn't know it was as nice as it actually is -- and it's only a four and a half-hour drive from my house. "Coach (Grant) Heard is my main recruiter, and I also talked a lot with Coach (Tom) Allen, the linebackers coach. They told me how much they want me, how I can be a big part of the team, and how I can help the team." Does Ole Miss have the lead for Riley? "I don't have a leader but it would be a good fit," he replied. "It's in the SEC - the best conference in the nation. "I'm going to look at how things fit me best - both and off the field. I'm looking at academics." Riley talked about yesterday's short trip to Tulane's uptown New Orleans campus. "I went with my dad to Tulane," he said. "It's really close to home, and they have a great coaching staff - half of them worked in the NFL. They're rebuilding, which is what I want; I want to help a team by making a big difference. The defensive coordinator - Lionel Washington - played in the NFL for 15 years. They call him 'Speedy' because he ran a 4.2 (in the 40-yard dash). "We'll see what happens, and if I don't commit during the summer I'll check out things this year and see what Ole Miss and Tulane are doing on the field. I'm camping with TCU this Friday at John Curtis, and I'm going to see what they do in the Big 12. I was supposed to go to Mississippi State camp on Friday, but I forgot that the TCU camp is at our school that day." John Curtis has a '13 prospect (OL Brandon Godfrey) committed to Tulane. Another '13 Patriot, RB Sherman Badie, has a Green Wave offer, as does '15 Curtis safety Hunter Dale. Riley might venture to Starkville next month. He also plans a trip to Baton Rouge for LSU camp, in addition to a return trip to Oxford. "Coach Frank (Wilson) from LSU sent me a message on Facebook right after their camp last week," he said. "He wants me to come to their camp in July. He said he's looking forward to me coming to LSU camp, and that they'd love to have me at the camp." Riley led John Curtis in tackles each of the past two years. The Patriots went 14-0 in 2011. "Things have been going good," he said. "I'm working hard and training hard. I'm getting bigger and faster."
