Hunter Perrin: Putting in Work
Hunter Perrin is getting around this summer. He's already took part in several camps, and the junior from Class 5A Hahnville can't get enough. "Everyone expects me to go to LSU for college if they offer me, and LSU is my dream school," said Perrin. "That would be awesome. If LSU doesn't offer, I'll still be happy at a smaller school. "I'm camping with LSU next month. The next day - after the camp - they have an offensive line/defensive line camp, and I'll be going to that. I'm camping Saturday with Tulane, on the 8th of July with McNeese (State) and also with Lamar." Perrin actually has two dream schools: LSU and another SEC program. "Florida has also been my dream school since I as a kid," he said. "I camped with Florida last week. My roommate was ('14 University Lab OL) Garrett Brumfield. We go to a lot of the same camps and are really close. We push each other. "It's a friendly competition. Garrett was really excited when he got an offer from Florida. At the end of the camp, the coaches said I have a great shot at going to Florida, so I stepped it up and tried to work even harder. They told me I would be a great fit, and that I just need to gain 15 pounds." Perrin stopped off at Florida State while he was in the Sunshine State - and ran into another Louisiana offensive lineman, Brother Martin '13 prospect Ryan Hoefeld. "They gave me the grand tour," he said of the Seminoles. "Their coaches said that just by looking at me - they could tell I can play - even without seeing me play yet. "That made me feel good. They have a great staff. Ryan and I were talking to (FSU strength and conditioning coach) Vic Vilora, who is from Louisiana. He played at John Curtis and SMU. Coach (Rick) Trickett, the o-line coach, is an old-school coach. He's like a military guy, which I love. The coaches said that Ryan and I look like brothers. He's an inch taller than me and 20 pounds heavier. He's a year older than me, so I think I can grow that much. I'm 6-2, 250 pounds right now." Perrin also has visited Ole Miss, UAB, South Alabama and the UL Ragin' Cajuns. "Ole Miss has a beautiful campus," he said. "I had a good experience at their camp. I spent a lot of time with the offensive line coach, Matt Luke, and the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator, Chris Kiffin. "South Alabama is amazing. They're an up-and-coming program that is going to be a top program in a couple of years. They're extremely interested. While I was there, they showed a lot of interest. They're going to be in touch. Right now, they're working on finishing up the 2013 class. "(Ragin' Cajuns offensive line) Coach (Mitch) Rodrigue played college ball with my dad. He's hard-nosed, like my coach at Hahnville (Lou Valdin). They have a great, new indoor practice facility. Everything there is really, really nice." FoxSportsNEXT/Scout.com will continue to track the recruitment of Hunter Perrin.
